One of the most common questions about Triara is: "if combat is automatic, what do I do?". The short answer: you decide everything before the fight starts. The fight just executes your decisions.
3-champion teams and a fixed formation
Triara is 3 versus 3. You pick three champions from your roster and place them in a formation with three slots: tank (front), melee (back) and ranged (back). The position is not cosmetic — it determines who you can hit and the order in which your team acts.
Class and role, separated
There are seven classes (warrior, knight, assassin, pirate, archer, mage and healer) and three combat roles (melee, ranged, tank). Class and role are different things: class drives which skills a champion can learn and which races/synergies it has; role drives where it stands and who it can hit. That means the same champion can play very differently depending on the role you give it.
Initiative is by position, not speed
People often assume the fastest acts first. In Triara turn order is fixed by position: the initiator team goes first, and within each team the order is mid (tank) → back-melee → back-ranged. The agility stat does matter — but not for turn order. It feeds the dodge chance, capped at 50%.
Stats: few and clear
Each champion has HP and three base stats: damage, agility and resistance. There is no separate speed, crit or secondary defense stat. Anything more "exotic" in combat (shields, bleed, stuns, life steal) comes from skills and from the potions you use pre-battle.
Skills: up to 2 per champion
Each champion can equip at most 2 skills. They can be active or passive, and many are gated by class, race or role. The full catalogue is about 30 — from Whirlwind and Backstab to Sacred Light, Hex or Shield Master. That makes skill choice a key strategic decision: with only two slots, you have to commit.
Target selection
The engine follows a clear priority every time an attacker picks a victim: first targets protected by a guard, then the one in the most front position (tank before the rest), and as a tie-breaker the one with the lowest HP ratio. So putting a real tank in the front does soak attention and protect your mage.
Pets on the field
Each champion can have one assigned pet fighting alongside them. Pets are found by hunting (not bought), share the same three stats and grow stronger by training. In battle they are full entities: they hit, take damage and can die.
Why it's fun if I don't click in combat
Because the fun lives in the loop around the fight: exploring for chests and new champion recruits, hunting pets, picking the formation, assigning skills, brewing potions for that specific battle. Auto combat is the test of your decisions, not the centre of the game.
And the Arena?
The Arena is the PvP mode, with ELO and a leaderboard. You don't fight the other player live — you fight the team they've configured. That's where it shows the system is neither random nor really "auto": whoever thought their line-up and skills through wins.
